The First One

At this time 4 years ago I was just beginning my seventh month with Adventures In Missions on the World Race. I was in Malaysia celebrating what God had already done on the first part of the Race and eagerly anticipating what he would do on the second part. Part of my journey during this time was to write and share my experiences on the mission field, the lessons that I was learning and how Jesus was changing my life through life on the mission field (you can read about these experiences here. I discovered during this time that I enjoyed writing and over the course of the time that I’ve been back in the United States I’ve discovered that, through writing, I’m better able to share my heart with those around me in a way that helps me to better express, and my readers to better understand, how God is moving in my world and how desperately he wants to impact theirs. I don’t take this task lightly. I understand that words are powerful and can be twisted to mean something that the author never intended. I understand that there are those who will be skeptical or even mock what I have to say but I’ve come to the conclusion that sometimes you just have to what is on your mind and let the Holy Spirit do his work. Having said that, there are three (can you tell I grew up in Southern Baptist church?) things that I hope you, the reader, get from reading this blog:

1. Encouragement

In this day and age it’s hard to be a Christian, even where I grew up in the Bible Belt. While many of us will never have to endure the trials and persecution that many Christians around the world have to endure on a daily basis there are times where, I think, many Christians feel defeated. If that is you I hope that this website will be a source of encouragement for you. I hope you leave here knowing that, even in the midst of your struggle, God is with you and that you are not the only one struggling to live the life that God has called you to.

2. Engagement

We live in a world that desperately needs Christians to be vocal, not in an obnoxious or judgmental way but in a way that shares truth without compromise from a posture of humility and love. Jesus wasn’t afraid to interact with those around him and he wasn’t afraid to say what they needed to hear regardless of whether or not they believed what he said or even agreed with it. If Jesus is our example then the same thing should hold true for us. We need to be willing to interact and share our message of faith, hope and love with those around us regardless of how they may react or what they may say.

3. Entertainment

This world can be hard. There are timelines and deadlines that many of us have to meet that often take the fun out of life. I believe that, while we have to make a living for ourselves and, if you have a family, provide for those around you, life is more than about just going to work from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday. Sometimes we need to stop and appreciate the finer and, to be honest, somewhat less important things in our lives. God designed us to be not just relational but also emotional. He wants us to enjoy what we’ve been given (within reason, of course) and make the most of the opportunities that we come across. Hopefully by lightening the mood a little bit from time to time I will help you do just that.

So, with that a new project is off the ground. I will try to post on a regular basis and I hope that you will read on a regular basis and be blessed by it.
